The spring striper bite is in full swing. Live herring and shad are the standards, but the linesiders will are eating bream, perch and crappie too. Remember you have to catch these panfish legally, ie on a hook and line not in a cast net. Catches of spotted bass, largemouth bass, & blue catfish occur in the same shallow areas that the stripers frequent. Crappie are shallow also, and will hit smaller minnows if you have them. And artificials will catch all of these gamefish. Try topwater hard baits, bucktails and swim baits at dawn and dusk, and deeper running crankbaits, plastic worms and lizards, and jigs during the middle of the day. If you aren't fishing now, you're missing the best time of the whole year.
